Salvo Fair 2013 - Knebworth House

Salvo 2013 took place at Knebworth House. The grounds were taken over by magnificent dogs, architectural salvage, reclaimed building materials, antiques, retro items, garden ornaments and quirky pieces!

Authentic post boxes restored to their former glory and a hymn board salvaged from a demolished church (which will now become my "photo display" board!) I bought the board from "Antique Church Furnishings", who specialise in religious artefacts and furnishings.
Ornate antique bathroom fittings reclaimed from houses in France

Original stained glass doors and windows made from salvaged glass
Fixtures and fittings to create a vintage office!
Industrial light fittings and shades and Singer sewing machine table legs - probably from an old factory.

Wonderful! An old Belfast sink unit, splattered with years of paint, from an art studio!

I love architectural drawings filing cabinets & shoe lasts made into coat hooks!

Loved it!

The Vintage Home Show, Chiswick

The venue for this show was ideal; the lovely Chiswick Town Hall which is a listed building with ornate stained glass windows, overlooking Turnham Green. Considering it was a Sunday morning, the traders were lively and there was a nice atmosphere in the air....there was even a vintage tea room serving refreshments in old tea sets!
There was a refreshingly different selection of stallholders from similar fairs that I have been to recently. I really liked the presence of old glass, vintage textiles, pottery and several robust typewriters! I came away with a tea-cup and saucer!
There was a £4 entry fee to this show - something I am never keen on - being charged to shop! Perhaps this could have been reduced to £2. How ever the prices inside were reasonable. Future shows planned in Manchester and Birmingham. For a full calendar, please see www.vintagehomeshow.co.uk

Sunbury Antiques fair & upcycled swan planters!

I love Sunbury antiques fair, held bi-monthly at Kempton Park race course. On my latest trip I found an old, kitsch swan planter. It's the ideal storage container for my sewing threads!
I was tempted by these old birds and basket too... but resisted!
I really liked the raised flowers and shape of this plate; ideal for resting my knitting needles!
Everything on this stall from the antique dentifrice containers to victorian toothbrushes, was dug out of landfills and building sites! The trader looks on maps for areas where old factories or big buildings used to be and then digs! Sometimes he's lucky, sometimes not!
I love old glass. This is an antique inkwell from a landfill. A snip at £1!
More unusual sights at the fair; an antique wheelchair and cast iron bath legs. I love their shape!
"Sunbury Antiques Market is the largest market in the country with over 750 stalls - rummage heaven!"

Vintage Village

I went to the delightful Vintage Village in Stockport today which is held on the 2nd Sunday of every month in the beautiful Victorian market hall.
I love haberdashery! So was happy to see such a large selection of stalls devoted to antique sewing and knitting patterns, retro buttons, pin cushions and magazines!
With Jubilee street parties looming, the village is a perfect place to source old fashioned bunting!
Vintage tes-sets perfect for more Jubilee celebrations!
"Parrot in the Pantry" stall, complete with a trader dressing up to get in the spirit of the event. Touches like these, along with low prices, made the fayre really enjoyable!
An old chopper!
My loot! A Shamrock "bun-warmer" and an old glas decanter to add to my growing collection!

Stockport Antiques Fair

The Stockport antiques and collectors fair takes place every couple of months
Highlights of todays fair included these unusual red and yellow celluloid dolls
with the "Made in Occupied Japan" stamp dating back to 1950,
found in a box in a toyshop in Egypt!
The fair takes places in the ballroom of the sumptuous Stockport town hall
with stained glass windows, cornices and gold leaf details
Pretty antique lace and trims. This stall holder often features on the TV show "Bargain Hunters"
I was tempted by the vast collection of silver cutlery, linen and tea-sets
"Dig-out" doll with no arms - named so as so many of these dolls were manufactured, many were thrown in to tips and then later dug up. I loved the wee doll in a crocheted dress. On closer inspection she had no legs - she is an "egg cosy doll"!
A box for beauty restorers including a product for civility and to aid the brain!
The mint china boot was salvaged from an old bootmakers in Liverpool that closed down and was famous for it's window display of miniature footwear!
"Nitty Nora" print - examining children's hair for nits!

This box appealed to. Usually placed next to an open fire so it kept the slippers inside nice and toasy! I also liked the sweet 1960s sewing basket

The next fair will take place on 19 May 2012.

The Vintazia Vintage Fair

Uniquely held every month on a Friday night 17.00-21.00...

...in the atmospheric Great Barn in Ruislip, with a back drop of nostalgic tunes!
One of my purchases, as I couldn't resist the retro box:
an old kitsch hanky gift set for £1 from the lovely "Vintage wardrobe" stall
Choose your own vintage style fabric and this stall will make a bespoke dress for you!
An eclectic range of collectibles from dried milk and ration cards to pretty jewellery
I was tempted by so many lush vintage clothes, but was good and came away with a retro milk indicator for a £1...I just need a milkman now!
