Another place

There is something both eerie and beautiful about Antony Gormleys sculptures on Formby beach.

Another Place consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometers of the foreshore, stretching one kilometre out to sea.
Contractors spent three weeks lifting the figures into place.
Each figure weighs 650 kilos

The statues are made from casts of Antony Gormleys own body and are shown at different stages of rising out of the sand, all of them looking out to sea, staring at the horizon.
It was a freezing day when we visited!
Depending on the time of day and whether the tide is on or out,
changes the vista and atmosphere.

The statues had an air of mummified bathers!
